School Satisfaction Survey 2023 – Thank you
Thank you to everyone who participated in the School Satisfaction Survey 2023, your feedback is very important to help inform our school improvement planning and decision-making. The survey is now closed, and schools will receive summaries of the results in Term 4.
Professional Learning Day
On Friday 3rd of November, staff will be participating in a professional learning day. This will focus on our annual school review and aligning our planning with the Australian Curriculum Framework Version 9. Students are not required to attend school on this day.
School Uniform
A number of students across our school have been wearing non uniform shoes to school. As outlined in our Uniform Policy, their school shoes need to be black, even if students are choosing to wear the sports uniform. They are allowed to wear either black, white, grey or navy blue socks.
Thanks for your continued support in ensuring our students are taking pride in their uniform.
Student Achievement
Grade 7 student Angus is competing in the U13 National Hockey Carnival in Newcastle, representing Tasmania. He was lucky enough to score the first goal of the tournament and is filling the role of co-captain. Well done Angus!!
Congratulations to Grade 7 students Sianna, Maddison and Aloka who have been selected to represent Tasmania in the Australian U14s Basketball Club Championships in Melbourne. This is an amazing achievement!
From the entire RHS community, we wish all the very best on what will no doubt be a big few days of competition!
CONGRATULATIONS

This term in The Hub, we've continued to have loads of fun with activities including dressing up for Book Week, science experiments, the Drumbeat Program, weekly visits by Bianca from YFCC (exploring a variety of health and well-being topics), Life Skills classes, cooking, PE, visits from Sassy the Delta Dog, outdoor education and tree planting at Tiagarra. As always, we still primarily focus on improving our English and Maths skills with 1:1 support and rotating group work.

This term at Reece High School, prefects Abbey and Chloe organised and ran the MND Big Freeze event. This event included a water slide finishing with a pool of icy cold water; two selected students from each class participated. Food was sold at this event which consisted of spiders, frog in the pond, and s’mores made to fit in with the blue theme of the event. All the money raised, approximately $1500, is going to the MND fundraiser. Mr Murray and Mr Mac both tied with the best costumes of the day, however, only one had taken out the pool… (*cough* *cough* Mr Murray)
A special thankyou to the students involved in the Grade Nine Council for making and serving these items at lunchtime. Congratulations to the teachers and students who went down the slide and showed their support of the event, and an even bigger congratulations to the teachers who paid money to get out of it because of their important meetings (not calling anyone out…Miss Reeves).

Grade 8 Science have been working hard on their Science Investigations for our annual Grade 8 Science Fair. Each group has had to develop their own scientific question and experiment to conduct. Our investigation topics range from ‘Which area of our school has the most mould?” to “What brand of garbage bag is the strongest?”, as well as “Who can throw further, left or right-handed people?”.
Yesterday, 4 scientific experts, as well as our inhouse judges Robbo and Mrs Elliott, were invited to Reece High to judge our Science Fair projects. Grade 7 was also invited to come along, view our projects, and vote for their favourites.
The winning project was ‘Thermal Impact’ by Erin B, Zara C and Nikki G and the runner up was ‘Under Pressure’ by Noah S and Kai W.
Well done to all our Grade 8 cohort on their efforts.

Hi there, us again, the Grade 10 team.
Week 10. We did it. I hope all students in Grade 10 enjoy a well-earned rest and come back fresh and eager for their final term as Reece High students. It is a great opportunity to look back on their journey to this point and reflect on all they have accomplished. But, before the holidays begin, we must talk about the exciting things that have occurred in the last few weeks of Term 3. The transition program at Don College began in earnest with a visit to the Don campus, allowing students a chance to see their new school and talk with potential staff. The culmination of this being a preliminary enrolment completed during this week. All students have had the importance of making sure they are up to date with overdue work, ready for the challenge of studying for their Term 4 examinations.
However, probably the most important news is to follow. Firstly, Mr Connors’ class, 10C, have once again managed to dominate the rest of the grade in the dodgeball world cup, reminiscent of the Matildas fantastic efforts in the soccer. Sponsorship has been offered but rejected, as we play for the love of the game. Secondly, and most importantly is the news that Wicket the guinea pig has received a new haircut and is very happy with the results.
Wishing you all well, and hoping you have a great holiday,
from the Grade 10 team.
Visual Art Term 3
It has been a busy term in the Art Room this term! We have been experimenting with a range of materials and processes across grade levels. Mrs Hope Smith is a university student from Deakin University studying to be an Art Teacher who recently completed a 5-week placement from Weeks 3-7 working with Miss Lutwyche. In this time Mrs Smith enjoyed observing and working in the Art Room. She also planned and taught a few Art lessons during her placement inspired by the artist Rona Green and her love of printmaking.

In Week 6 some of the Art students visited the Devonport Regional Gallery to view ArtRage and were impressed at the amazing artworks on display. A special shout out goes to Rogelio Marco, a former Reece High Student who had a fantastic artwork on display.
Our school value Inclusiveness has been a focus in the Art space with lunch time workshops called “Art Club” allowing students to create bookmark designs, friendship bracelets and time to work on individual projects. The bookmark designs were created into actual bookmarks by Miss Lutwyche for our school library. Art Club has been a great way for student to come in and work with likeminded people. In some of our Art classes we have also been doing peer shout-outs at the end of the lesson. Peer shout-outs aim to foster inclusiveness through students recognising other students showing our school values in the classroom. The shout-outs that have been collected have gone into a draw for a chance to win some art prizes on the final day of Term 3.
