2025 Cross Country
Lace up your shoes, the annual RHS Cross Country Carnival is on Tuesday May 27th! Whether you’re aiming for a placing or simply soaking up the energy, this event is all about team spirit, personal bests, and embracing the challenge. Students should come to school on the day in their house colours and sports clothes, ready to be active. Students will attend normal Tuesday block 1 classes, during this time they will have a number written on their hand that correlates their name and year group with the timing system at the carnival. Students can use their recess time to have a bite to eat, plenty of water and use the toilets/changerooms in readiness to jump on the busses with their principal classes to head over to Kelcey Tier. Students need to be responsible for bringing their own food and drink bottle to the cross-country venue, ensuring they have appropriate footwear and clothes for all weather- being Tasmania, we could have 4 different seasons in the day! A change of clothes and footwear is recommended for the return to school in block 3. There will be a toilet available at the venue and we will have first aid set up at the finish line. The running starts with all students in year groups, with senior boys running first as their course is longer. Every year group after that will go in 2-minute intervals. There will be check-points marked by cones and staff members all along the course to direct students where they need to go. Mr Van Essen will be riding his bike around the course as a roaming staff member. The whole school will bus back to school by end of block 2. Normal canteen will be available for students to access upon return, where everyone will hang out in the canteen courtyard/courts to have lunch and listen to our talented TA’s Dylan and Lauren, put on a musical performance with some students. For block 3, students will have the opportunity to opt into activities as a reward for giving their best effort at the carnival. There will be options to suit all, whether you are wanting to use those post exercise endorphins or relax after a big day. During PE lessons, all year groups have been working hard to set goals, improve their cardiovascular endurance and learning how being active and responsible for your health, can improve quality of life. Now, with excitement building, we’re ready to hit the track. Don't forget to wear your house colours, we’ll see you at the start line!
